Solid cloud cover today, with a firm WNW blow with the barometer flat. Fish at Trayes Lake should hold close to windblown banks where food collects. A tough forecast; the morning offers the only real chance. Treat it as a scouting trip with a rod in hand. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Trayes Lake lies within the bounds of Timiskaming District, Ontario. The bank is 352 metres above sea level. With some 14 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. About 3.4 km of bank, so nothing stays unexplored for long. For supplies, Timmins is 40 km out. After that come Iroquois Falls at 92 km and Kirkland Lake at 106 km. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Reported across Timiskaming District: brook trout, northern pike and yellow perch. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. Read Trayes Lake before you fish it and the day goes better.
Averages here run 17°C at the top of summer and -17°C at the bottom of winter. Long winters and short summers set the pattern. The lid usually goes in early May, which opens the strongest weeks of the year. Expect the water usable from around early May until roughly mid November. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. It sets the rhythm of the year at Trayes Lake.
No access rule appears in what we hold. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Nothing in the way of made access shows up nearby: no ramp, no car park, no path. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. If the gate is shut, Dark Lake at 3.3 km is the nearest alternative. Treat access at Trayes Lake as something to verify.
