Bands of rain crossing through the day, with a light SSE breeze and pressure sitting still. The fish at Trail Lake are likely to sit near sheltered bays and points. Expect the better fishing from the day. Give the likely spots time before moving. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

The Kenora District entry here is Trail Lake, in Ontario. The water sits 397 metres up. Around 29 hectares of surface means several distinct areas to work. The full circuit measures close to 3.0 km on foot. It is one of the smaller waters we list in Kenora District. Some 30 km away sits Vermilion Bay, the nearest settlement. Further out sit Dryden (52 km) and Sioux Lookout (91 km). It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
The records we hold are silent on depth, so plan to find it yourself. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Public occurrence data for Kenora District names northern pike, longnose sucker, white sucker and johnny darter. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. On Trail Lake the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
July runs about 18°C on average, January about -18°C. A hard winter is normal, and the thaw brings a strong few weeks. Once it clears, about late April, the fishing comes on quickly. Break-up sits around late April on average, with the water closing again about mid November. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. Expect Trail Lake to follow that timing.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. The map shows no ramp or car park nearby, so this is a walk-in water. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Should this one be busy, Mystery Lake is 6 km off. Nothing on Trail Lake should be assumed from this page alone.
