Heavy overcast holding through the day, with next to no ripple and steady pressure. The productive water at Townshend Lake will be around sheltered bays and points. A stay-home graph, with the middle of the day as the one excuse to go. Downsize everything and pick the calmest water. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Townshend Lake is a Kenora District water, Ontario side. Around the bank it is boreal forest. It measures some 2.15 sq km, and wind has room to build across it. Shoreline length is close to 8.8 km, and each section fishes a little differently. Supplies mean a trip to Sioux Lookout, 240 km off. For a city, Thunder Bay is 350 km off. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Kenora District records list northern pike, longnose sucker, white sucker, johnny darter and logperch among the fish reported. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. On Townshend Lake that means starting tight and working out.
July is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 16°C, while January sits near -21°C. Water stays cold even at the height of the year. The freeze runs deep into the year, with break-up near early May. Ice clears near early May and comes back about early November in a typical year. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. The season on Townshend Lake rarely departs from it.
We hold no note on access for this one. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. No made access appears within a short radius, so plan to park on a verge and walk. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. A landowner's word beats anything printed elsewhere. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Martinsen Lake at 6.5 km is the sensible second choice. Confirm before you fish Townshend Lake.
