Uneven cloud over the water after dark, with light air out of the SW and the barometer holding steady. Tory Lake should fish best around shallow cover and weed edges today. Little to get excited about, though the night holds a sliver of promise. Lower the pace and stay patient. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Look for Tory Lake in the Haliburton County part of Ontario. It sits at 388 metres above sea level. Surface area is around 20 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. Shoreline comes to about 2.2 km, small enough to learn in a day. For a base, Haliburton Village sits 21 km out. Oshawa sits 127 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Reported across Haliburton County: smallmouth bass, pumpkinseed and rock bass. The county list is broader than any single water. Fish Tory Lake where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep.
The warm month here averages 18°C; the cold one sits at -11°C. A solid cap is the normal state through winter. Ice-out usually falls in mid April, and the weeks after it fish hardest. Averages place the thaw at mid April and the freeze at late November. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. That is the shape of the year on Tory Lake.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. The nearest car park we can see is 1 km out, so expect a walk with your gear. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. If the gate is shut, Days Lake at 3.1 km is the nearest alternative. What applies at Tory Lake may have changed since it was mapped.
