A closed sky with even light today, with the water lying quiet and pressure going nowhere. The productive water at Taylor Lake will be around sheltered bays and points. The strongest window is the middle of the day. Stay patient; middling days often turn late. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Set in Kenora District, Taylor Lake is an Ontario water. Around the bank it is pine and birch. About 3.81 sq km, so local knowledge or a boat saves a lot of walking. The shoreline runs to about 28 km, far more than one trip can cover. The town to know is Dryden, 45 km out. Thunder Bay is the closest city, 270 km away. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
There is no published depth for this one, so start shallow and work out. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Reported across Kenora District: northern pike, longnose sucker, white sucker and johnny darter. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. Taylor Lake repays a walk before the first cast.
Expect July to average close to 18°C, with January the cold end at about -18°C. Cold locks it up for a good stretch each year. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from late April. Expect the water usable from around late April until roughly mid November. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. The season on Taylor Lake rarely departs from it.
Our records carry no access rule either way. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Mapping records no facilities at all near this water. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. If the gate is shut, Levit Lake at 2.5 km is the nearest alternative. Check the current arrangement for Taylor Lake.
