A half-and-half sky over the water today, with mild air moving in from the NW and no real change in pressure. The productive water at Tarpon Lake will be around sheltered bays and points. Fair numbers all day without a real peak. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Tarpon Lake lies in Algoma, in Ontario. The bank is 373 metres above sea level. Around 11 hectares of surface means several distinct areas to work. About 1.5 km of bank, so nothing stays unexplored for long. On size it sits at the modest end of our Algoma list. The closest town, Manitouwadge, is 68 km distant. Hornepayne is 79 km away, with Wawa at 81 km. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Records held for Algoma cover walleye, northern pike and Iowa darter. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. On Tarpon Lake the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
On the long-term average, July reads 16°C and January reads -17°C. Long winters and short summers set the pattern. Look for the thaw near early May; the fishing lifts straight after. Climate averages put the opening at about early May and the closing near mid November. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. Tarpon Lake fishes to that pattern most years.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. No car park, ramp or path is recorded within easy reach of the shore. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Should this one be busy, Blue Cedar Lake is 1.4 km off. Treat Tarpon Lake as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
