Cloud from horizon to horizon today, with air barely moving and the barometer holding steady. Give sheltered bays and points the first hour at Tallon Lake. A tough forecast; the middle of the day offers the only real chance. Keep baits small and presentations quiet. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Tallon Lake falls in Thunder Bay District, part of Ontario. It stands 326 metres above sea level. Surface area is around 69 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. There is roughly 5.0 km of shoreline here, which is a short walk end to end. Greenstone lies 44 km from the water. Geraldton is 60 km away, with Nipigon at 83 km. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
Nothing in our records gives a depth for this one. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Species logged across Thunder Bay District include cisco, blackfin cisco and rainbow smelt. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. On Tallon Lake the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
Expect July to average close to 16°C, with January the cold end at about -20°C. This is a two-season water: locked, then wide open. Ice is part of the season here, ending near early May. Averages suggest open water from about early May through to roughly mid November. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. It sets the rhythm of the year at Tallon Lake.
Our records carry no access rule either way. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Nothing is mapped in the way of a ramp or car park within a short radius. Keep the gear simple: light line, small hooks, split shot and a couple of proven lures. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. The nearest alternative is Still Lake, 1 km out. Confirm access to Tallon Lake locally before you travel.
