Flat light and a covered sky today, with hardly a ripple anywhere and steady pressure. Expect most activity at Tab Lake around the shallows early and the drop later. Little to get excited about, though the middle of the day holds a sliver of promise. Downsize everything and pick the calmest water.

You will find Tab Lake in Kenora District, Ontario. The surface lies 367 metres up. Roughly 1.08 sq km of surface: treat each bay as a water in its own right. The bank runs about 4.4 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. Sioux Lookout lies 22 km from the water. For a city, Thunder Bay is 289 km off. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
No depth figure appears in our records, so the bank has to tell you. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Reported across Kenora District: northern pike, longnose sucker, white sucker, johnny darter and logperch. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. Fish Tab Lake to its features, not to its size.
July is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 18°C, while January sits near -18°C. A hard winter is normal, and the thaw brings a strong few weeks. Break-up comes around late April, and the run that follows is short and strong. Climate averages put the opening at about late April and the closing near mid November. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. On Tab Lake the same rules apply, with local timing.
No public source sets out the position on this bank. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Mapping is blank for access, so scout the approach before committing the car. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. Jackfish Lake, 3 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Signs at Tab Lake carry more weight than any list.
