An even grey lid over the water, with hardly a ripple anywhere and steady pressure. Most of the action on Storey Lake should come off the calm side of the wind. If you must go, go in the morning. Treat it as a scouting trip with a rod in hand. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Storey Lake lies in Cochrane District, Ontario. The bank is 266 metres above sea level. It measures about 63 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. With 6.0 km or so of shoreline, boat anglers cover ground the bank cannot. Hearst sits 45 km from here and is the nearest stop. Beyond it, Hornepayne at 58 km and Manitouwadge at 126 km. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Cochrane District records list northern pike, yellow perch, white sucker and Iowa darter among the fish reported. County data is a starting point rather than a guarantee. Storey Lake gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
Expect July to average close to 16°C, with January the cold end at about -18°C. Long winters and short summers set the pattern. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near early May. The lid tends to go about early May and return around mid November. The weeks after the thaw and the ones before the freeze are the strongest. It sets the rhythm of the year at Storey Lake.
No access rule appears in what we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. No made access is recorded, so a short walk in is the likely arrangement. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Local rules can differ across the county line, so check where you stand. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Florin Lake at 3 km is the sensible second choice. Nothing on Storey Lake should be assumed from this page alone.
