A closed sky with even light today, with a busy W wind on the open water and pressure going nowhere. Most of the action on Stoney Lake should come off bays that hold the day's warmth. Expect the better fishing from the day. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

In Ontario, Stoney Lake falls inside Renfrew County. Everything around it is mixed forest. At about 52 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. Roughly 3.8 km of bank means you can walk to a fresh area when one goes quiet. It ranks high for size among our Renfrew County listings. Nearest place of any size is Eganville, 42 km away. Bancroft lies 48 km off, Petawawa another 56 km. The boundary is close enough to be worth checking before you fish.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Open biodiversity records for Renfrew County list smallmouth bass, pumpkinseed, yellow perch and rock bass. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. On Stoney Lake that means starting tight and working out.
Averages move between -13°C in January and 18°C in July. Four clear seasons, with a proper winter at one end. After late April the shallows warm and the fish move up. The lid tends to go about late April and return around early December. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. The season on Stoney Lake follows the weather closely.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. A pier or jetty stands 830 m away, which helps on a crowded bank. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Season dates differ by species, so read the table. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Pershick Lake at 1.3 km is the sensible second choice. Check the position on Stoney Lake before loading the car.
