A mixed sky through the night, with light air out of the SE with a settled glass. Activity on Stonedam Lake should centre on shallow cover and weed edges. Block out the hours from the day. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

The Rainy River District end of Ontario holds Stonedam Lake. It sits in rolling bush country. At some 1.23 sq km it is far too large to cover on foot in a day. For a base, Fort Frances sits 48 km out. International Falls follows at 50 km, then Emo at 51 km. Round about: Loonhaunt Lake roughly 5 km, Pipestone Lake lies 6.3 km on, Silver Lake roughly 6.4 km, Dash Lake lies 8 km on and Hoey Lake roughly 8.4 km. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Records held for Rainy River District cover northern pike, smallmouth bass, yellow perch and walleye. The list covers the county rather than this water alone, so treat it as a guide. On Stonedam Lake a short move beats a long cast.
Expect July near 19°C and January near -17°C on the long-run figures. Expect a real winter and a strong spring after it. Winter fishing happens on the ice here, with open water back around late April. The open-water window runs from around late April to about mid November in an average year. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. At Stonedam Lake the season follows that pattern closely.
Whether you may fish here is not something records settle. No made access is recorded, so a short walk in is the likely arrangement. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Loonhaunt Lake sits 5 km off and takes the overflow. None of that is settled for Stonedam Lake in what we hold.
