Scattered cloud dimming the moonlight, with a mirror surface most of the day with the glass holding level. The productive water at St. Joseph Lake will be around inflow corners and shaded margins. A grinding day likely, with the night worth the effort if any is. Save the long walk for a better forecast.

The Cochrane District entry here is St. Joseph Lake, in Ontario. What surrounds it is taiga. It measures some 2.93 sq km, and wind has room to build across it. With 19 km or so of shoreline, boat anglers cover ground the bank cannot. On our Cochrane District list it sits near the top for size. Hearst lies 29 km from the water. Hornepayne is 84 km and Kapuskasing 123 km. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
Our records hold no depth for this water. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. County-wide records name northern pike, yellow perch and white sucker. The county list is broader than any single water. At St. Joseph Lake the first feature you find is worth twenty minutes.
Expect July to average close to 16°C, with January the cold end at about -19°C. The freeze holds for the better part of the year. Ice-out usually falls in early May, and the weeks after it fish hardest. On the long-run averages the water opens up around early May and starts locking again about mid November. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. That is the shape of the year on St. Joseph Lake.
The access position is unclear from public sources. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Nothing in the way of made access shows up nearby: no ramp, no car park, no path. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Take the rules with you rather than trusting memory. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. The nearest alternative is Lecours Lake, 3.1 km out. Ask locally about St. Joseph Lake if anything is unclear.
