Flat light and a covered sky today, with a kind SW breeze on the water and pressure sitting still. St. Amand Lake should fish best around sheltered bays and points today. The day peaks in the evening. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

St. Amand Lake is one of the Cochrane District waters in Ontario. The ground around here is boreal forest. The water covers some 86 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. About 3.5 km of bank, so nothing stays unexplored for long. It lies lower than most water we list in Ontario. The nearest town is Kapuskasing, 41 km away. The big place round here is Greater Sudbury, 382 km distant. No border sits close enough to matter.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Open biodiversity records for Cochrane District list northern pike, yellow perch, white sucker, Iowa darter and logperch. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. The near bank of St. Amand Lake is often the one people ignore.
Expect July to average close to 17°C, with January the cold end at about -19°C. Open water is the exception rather than the rule here. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around early May. Break-up sits around early May on average, with the water closing again about mid November. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. Plan around that when you fish St. Amand Lake.
Public data does not answer the access question here. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Access is unmapped, which usually means a farm track and a walk. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. For a change of water, Waxatike Lake is 2 km distant. Nothing here settles the position at St. Amand Lake for certain.
