A broken sky giving spells of shade, with a mirror surface most of the day with the barometer flat. Most of the action on Spoke Lake should come off bays that hold the day's warmth. If you must go, go in the middle of the day. Keep baits small and presentations quiet. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

The Thunder Bay District end of Ontario holds Spoke Lake. It sits at 364 metres above sea level. Roughly 17 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. About 1.9 km of bank, so nothing stays unexplored for long. Our Thunder Bay District list holds plenty of bigger water. The nearest town is Schreiber, 14 km away. Terrace Bay is 16 km and Nipigon 81 km. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Across Thunder Bay District, recorded fish include cisco, blackfin cisco and rainbow smelt. County data is a starting point rather than a guarantee. At Spoke Lake the first feature you find is worth twenty minutes.
Between January at about -16°C and July at about 16°C, the water has a wide range to work through. The year here is short and sharp: a long lid, then a burst of open water. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near early May. Averages place the thaw at early May and the freeze at mid November. The weeks after the thaw and the ones before the freeze are the strongest. Spoke Lake runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Public mapping records no formal access here, so plan for a walk and soft ground. A light spinning outfit with a small box of lures and some bait covers most of what swims here. A phone call first saves an afternoon. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Failing this one, try Hub Lake, 0.8 km away. Signs at Spoke Lake carry more weight than any list.
