A clean, cloudless night over the water, with a stiffish breeze from the NW and no real change in pressure. Activity on Skull Lake should centre on bays that hold the day's warmth. The day runs flat but workable from start to finish. Take the steady approach over the searching one. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Night
In Ontario, Skull Lake falls inside Kenora District. It sits at 404 metres above sea level. At about 15 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. The edge runs 1.8 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. It is one of the smaller waters we list in Kenora District. Head to Vermilion Bay, 17 km away, for anything you forgot. Then Kenora, 62 km, and Dryden, 63 km. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Reported across Kenora District: northern pike, longnose sucker, white sucker, johnny darter and logperch. The county figures include rivers and lakes alike. The shape of Skull Lake rewards a slow walk along one bank.
On the long-term average, July reads 18°C and January reads -18°C. A hard winter is normal, and the thaw brings a strong few weeks. Winter locks it down, and late April brings it back. Ice usually gives way near late April, and forms again about mid November. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. Expect Skull Lake to follow that timing.
Public data does not answer the access question here. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. No launch point is recorded nearby, so this is a bank water unless you carry a boat in. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. If the gate is shut, Game Lake at 1.8 km is the nearest alternative. What applies at Skull Lake may have changed since it was mapped.
