Flat light and a covered sky today, with a busy WNW wind on the open water with a settled glass. Start the search at Six Mile Lake along windblown banks where food collects. A stay-home graph, with the night as the one excuse to go. Save the long walk for a better forecast. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

Six Mile Lake is set in Kenora District, Ontario. The land about it is mixed forest. This is big water, about 10.60 sq km, and in a wind it behaves like a small sea. The perimeter is close to 48 km, and wind can be flat in one arm and rough in the next. It ranks high for size among our Kenora District listings. Sioux Lookout is the closest town at 75 km. For a city, Thunder Bay is 214 km off. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Across Kenora District, recorded fish include northern pike, longnose sucker, white sucker, johnny darter and logperch. The county figures include rivers and lakes alike. Treat Six Mile Lake as a water to read rather than to cover.
Expect July to average close to 17°C, with January the cold end at about -20°C. The year splits cleanly: hard water, then open water. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near early May. Averages suggest open water from about early May through to roughly mid November. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. The season on Six Mile Lake follows the weather closely.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Nothing built is recorded close to the bank here. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Check whether a boat is allowed before you tow one. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. Should this one be busy, Saunders Lake is 5.6 km off. Signs at Six Mile Lake carry more weight than any list.
