Fresh rain topping the water up today, with an easy breeze from the SSE with a settled glass. The water to cover at Six Mile Lake is reed fringes and open pockets. The productive run goes the day. Start on the obvious water and expand from there. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Six Mile Lake sits within District Municipality of Muskoka in Ontario. Everything around it is mixed forest. At roughly 15.68 sq km it ranks among the larger waters in the region. Some 109 km of shoreline means conditions can differ from one end to the other. On our District Municipality of Muskoka list it sits near the top for size. For supplies, Penetanguishene is 20 km out. Midland is 21 km and Gravenhurst 29 km. The county edge is within a short distance of the bank.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. District Municipality of Muskoka records list pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, northern pike, yellow perch and rock bass among the fish reported. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. Read Six Mile Lake for ten minutes before the first cast goes out.
Expect July to average close to 20°C, with January the cold end at about -9°C. Winter puts a hard lid on this one. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around mid April. On the long-run averages the water opens up around mid April and starts locking again about mid December. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. The season on Six Mile Lake rarely departs from it.
Our records carry no access rule either way. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Access is unmapped, which usually means a farm track and a walk. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Take the rules with you rather than trusting memory. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Baxter Lake sits 3.5 km off and takes the overflow. Ask locally about Six Mile Lake if anything is unclear.
