Stars out and no cloud tonight, with a whisper of wind from the NW and pressure sitting still. The productive water at Simmons Lake will be around the calm side of the wind. The day fishes best from the day. Fish confidently and change only when the bites stop. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Simmons Lake is a Parry Sound District water, Ontario side. The land about it is pine and birch. Surface area is around 35 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. The edge runs 3.8 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. South River is the closest place, 35 km off. Barrie is the closest city, 134 km away. No border sits close enough to matter.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Reported across Parry Sound District: smallmouth bass, pumpkinseed, yellow perch and northern pike. The county list is broader than any single water. On Simmons Lake the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
The range across the year is -11°C to 18°C. The year runs cold to warm and back, with clear transitions. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around mid April. In an average year the thaw lands around mid April and the freeze near early December. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. The season on Simmons Lake rarely departs from it.
Nothing in our records says who may fish here. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. No car park, ramp or path is recorded within easy reach of the shore. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Check locally before you travel, because a wasted drive is a long one. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. If the gate is shut, Bells Lake at 1.3 km is the nearest alternative. None of that is settled for Simmons Lake in what we hold.
