Glare on the water under a clear sky, with a kind W breeze on the water and pressure going nowhere. Whatever swims in Sill Lake should be near windblown banks where food collects. If you pick one session, make it the evening. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

This water sits in Greater Sudbury, Ontario. Height above sea level is 222 metres. The water covers some 18 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. The edge covers about 5.2 km, enough to hold several distinct areas. It is low-lying compared with other Ontario water we list. Head to Lively, 29 km away, for anything you forgot. After that come Espanola at 39 km and Greater Sudbury at 40 km. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
The records we hold are silent on depth, so plan to find it yourself. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Open biodiversity records for Greater Sudbury list smallmouth bass, yellow perch, northern pike and pumpkinseed. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. Anyone new to Sill Lake should walk it once before setting up.
Seasonal averages run from -11°C in January up to 19°C in July. Spring and autumn carry the fishing; summer and winter test it. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around late April. On average, late April opens the water and early December closes it again. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. Sill Lake runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
The paperwork position is blank for this one. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Nothing built is recorded close to the bank here. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. A phone call first saves an afternoon. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. For a change of water, Goschen Lake is 0.9 km distant. For Sill Lake, the notice at the access point is the final word.
