A wide-open sky and strong sun today, with light air out of the WNW and the barometer holding steady. Start the search at Shoreaux Lake along the seam between weed and open water. The best of it runs the day. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

You will find Shoreaux Lake in Sudbury, Ontario. It stands 305 metres above sea level. At about 26 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. Around 2.5 km of margin, front to back. Some 20 km away sits Espanola, the nearest settlement. Dowling lies 42 km off, Little Current another 51 km. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
Nothing in our records gives a depth for this one. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Across Sudbury, recorded fish include smallmouth bass, northern pike and yellow perch. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. At Shoreaux Lake light and wind decide more than tackle does.
July is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 18°C, while January sits near -13°C. Winter shuts the surface down for months. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about late April. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about late April until roughly late November. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. Time your trip to Shoreaux Lake by conditions rather than dates.
Our records carry no access rule either way. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Shiner Pond sits 2.6 km off and takes the overflow. What applies at Shoreaux Lake may have changed since it was mapped.
