Broken cloud drifting past the moon tonight, with a steady WNW wind and no real change in pressure. Expect most activity at Shaver Lake around sheltered bays and points. If you must go, go in the night. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Set in Kenora District, Ontario, this is Shaver Lake. This is taiga ground. Roughly 1.14 sq km of surface: treat each bay as a water in its own right. There is roughly 5.7 km of bank, more than one visit can cover properly. For a base, Greenstone sits 188 km out. It is 354 km to Thunder Bay, the nearest city. No border sits close enough to matter.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Kenora District records list northern pike, longnose sucker and white sucker among the fish reported. The list covers the county rather than this water alone, so treat it as a guide. Treat Shaver Lake as a water to read rather than to cover.
The warmest month averages 16°C, the coldest about -22°C. Everything is compressed into the middle of the year. Ice-out usually falls in early May, and the weeks after it fish hardest. Break-up sits around early May on average, with the water closing again about early November. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. Plan any trip to Shaver Lake around it.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Public mapping records no formal access here, so plan for a walk and soft ground. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Should this one be busy, Schist Lake is 3.5 km off. For Shaver Lake in particular, ask before you travel.
