Cloud in patches with bright spells between, with stillness over the whole water and the barometer holding steady. Most of the action on Segise Lake should come off reed fringes and open pockets. If you pick one session, make it the middle of the day. Keep moving until you find them. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Set in Kenora District, Segise Lake is an Ontario water. It sits at 329 metres above sea level. This is sizeable water at about 6.03 sq km, and a boat opens up most of it. At about 17 km of edge, most people work one arm at a time. On our Kenora District list it sits near the top for size. 35 km away sits Vermilion Bay, the nearest town. Winnipeg is the closest city, 257 km away. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
We hold no depth figure for this one. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Records held for Kenora District cover northern pike, longnose sucker, white sucker, johnny darter and logperch. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. On Segise Lake a short move beats a long cast.
July is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 18°C, while January sits near -18°C. Fishing here follows the temperature more than the calendar. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly late April. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about late April until roughly mid November. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. Plan around that when you fish Segise Lake.
Our records carry no access rule either way. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Public mapping records no formal access here, so plan for a walk and soft ground. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. For a change of water, Adam Lake is 3 km distant. Nothing on Segise Lake should be assumed from this page alone.
