A still, cloudless night on the water, with a faint SSW drift and pressure sitting still. On Schumann Lake, work the shaded margin through bright spells first. The evening should out-fish the rest of the day. Take the steady approach over the searching one. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Schumann Lake stands in Timiskaming District, Ontario. Land around it is rolling bush. Surface area is around 24 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. A shoreline of some 2.9 km keeps the choices simple. Haileybury sits 14 km from the bank. Greater Sudbury is the closest city, 137 km away. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Reported across Timiskaming District: brook trout, northern pike, yellow perch, Iowa darter and walleye. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. Schumann Lake responds to conditions more than to tactics.
Expect July to average close to 18°C, with January the cold end at about -16°C. The season turns properly here, and fish follow it closely. Winter fishing happens on the ice here, with open water back around late April. Open water usually runs from late April until about late November. Spring is short and heavy here; autumn is longer and steadier. It holds true on Schumann Lake more years than not.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Nothing in the way of made access shows up nearby: no ramp, no car park, no path. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. A landowner's word beats anything printed elsewhere. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Frog Lake at 1.2 km is the sensible second choice. None of that is settled for Schumann Lake in what we hold.
