Heavy overcast holding through the day, with a persistent wind from the WNW with the glass holding level. Fish at Sabourin Lake should hold close to structure within a cast of the bank. Quiet conditions all day, with the morning marginally better. Quiet tactics only; the fish will not chase today.

Sabourin Lake is one of the Cochrane District listings for Ontario. It stands 286 metres above sea level. Surface area runs to about 4 hectares — small enough to read in one session. Most waters listed here for Cochrane District are larger. Kirkland Lake at 42 km is the nearest place to stop. Greater Sudbury is the closest city, 222 km away. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. County-wide records name northern pike, yellow perch and white sucker. The county figures include rivers and lakes alike. On Sabourin Lake the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Expect July to average close to 17°C, with January the cold end at about -18°C. A hard winter is normal, and the thaw brings a strong few weeks. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly early May. On the long-run averages the water opens up around early May and starts locking again about mid November. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. Sabourin Lake fishes to that pattern most years.
Whether you may fish here is not something records settle. The map shows no ramp or car park nearby, so this is a walk-in water. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. Warrell Lake sits 2.1 km off and takes the overflow. Where Sabourin Lake is concerned, a local answer beats a written one.
