Broken cloud drifting past the moon tonight, with light air out of the W with a settled glass. Activity on Royal Lake should centre on shallow cover and weed edges. The day holds up well from the day. Work the productive water thoroughly. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Royal Lake is one of the Algoma waters in Ontario. It sits in pine and birch. The water measures roughly 7 hectares, so nothing here is far from anything else. On size it sits at the modest end of our Algoma list. Wawa sits 62 km from here and is the nearest stop. Greater Sudbury is the closest city, 291 km away. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
Depth is not on record here, which means reading the ground instead. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. County-wide records name walleye, northern pike, Iowa darter, yellow perch and white sucker. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. Fish Royal Lake to its features, not to its size.
July runs about 16°C on average, January about -14°C. The season turns properly here, and fish follow it closely. Once it clears, about late April, the fishing comes on quickly. From about late April to around late November, expect open water on the long-run figures. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. On Royal Lake the same rules apply, with local timing.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. Nothing is listed nearby for parking or launching a boat. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. Tame Rice Lake sits 0.5 km off and takes the overflow. Nothing on Royal Lake should be assumed from this page alone.
