A clear night sky over the water, with hardly a ripple anywhere and pressure sitting still. Most of the action on Rock Lake should come off the first drop-off and weed lines. Quiet conditions all day, with the morning marginally better. Quiet tactics only; the fish will not chase today.

Ontario holds Rock Lake, in Algoma. Height above sea level is 377 metres. The water covers some 48 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. You are looking at roughly 5.2 km of shoreline, with plenty of water between access points. Supplies mean a trip to Wawa, 85 km off. Greater Sudbury is the closest city, 330 km away. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
We hold no depth figure for this one. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. County-wide records name walleye, northern pike, Iowa darter, yellow perch and white sucker. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. On Rock Lake the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Average temperature peaks around 16°C in July and bottoms out near -17°C in January. The freeze holds for the better part of the year. Count the season from break-up, usually early May. The open-water window runs from around early May to about mid November in an average year. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. On Rock Lake the same rules apply, with local timing.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Nothing is listed nearby for parking or launching a boat. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Cheesehead Lake, 3.9 km away, makes the obvious fallback. For Rock Lake, the notice at the access point is the final word.
