Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with a persistent wind from the W with a settled glass. On Rinne Lake, work any hard bottom among the soft first. Numbers are low everywhere; the morning is the pick of them. Go lighter and slower than usual. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

This water sits in Nipissing District, Ontario. The ground round it is mixed forest. Roughly 18 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. Shoreline comes to about 2.5 km, small enough to learn in a day. Nearest town is Mattawa, 27 km off. Powassan lies 68 km off, Callander another 69 km. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Species logged across Nipissing District include smallmouth bass, cisco and yellow perch. County records show what lives in the area; the local agency holds the water-by-water list. At Rinne Lake the water rewards a slow, careful approach.
July is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 18°C, while January sits near -13°C. The middle months are generous; the ends are demanding. Winter locks it down, and late April brings it back. Averages suggest open water from about late April through to roughly late November. The weeks after the thaw and the ones before the freeze are the strongest. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Rinne Lake.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Ask in the nearest town if you are unsure. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Maki Lake sits 0.3 km off and takes the overflow. Rules at Rinne Lake are worth checking on the day.
