Open sky and sharp air tonight, with a firm NW blow and the barometer holding steady. On Ridge Lake, work shallow cover and weed edges first. A hard day on paper; the night edges the rest. Scale down and fish slowly. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Ridge Lake is one of the Timiskaming District waters in Ontario. The bank is 373 metres above sea level. Around 11 hectares of surface means several distinct areas to work. Shoreline comes to about 1.5 km, small enough to learn in a day. The nearest town is Englehart, 80 km away. Beyond it, Temiskaming Shores at 85 km and Capreol at 91 km. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. County-wide records name brook trout, northern pike, yellow perch and Iowa darter. The list covers the county rather than this water alone, so treat it as a guide. On Ridge Lake the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Expect July near 17°C and January near -16°C on the long-run figures. Expect a real winter and a strong spring after it. Once it clears, about late April, the fishing comes on quickly. Open water usually runs from late April until about mid November. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. It holds true on Ridge Lake more years than not.
Our records carry no access rule either way. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Mapping records no facilities at all near this water. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Failing this one, try Lower Ridge Lake, 1.7 km away. None of that is settled for Ridge Lake in what we hold.
