Soft grey light all day today, with stillness over the whole water with the barometer flat. On Reveille Lake, work the seam between weed and open water first. Little to get excited about, though the middle of the day holds a sliver of promise. Downsize everything and pick the calmest water. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Cochrane District in Ontario is where Reveille Lake sits. The ground round it is pine and birch. At about 18 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. A shoreline of some 2.1 km keeps the choices simple. Kirkland Lake is the closest town at 49 km. After that come Iroquois Falls at 53 km and Timmins at 53 km. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
Depth is unmeasured here, so let the shoreline guide you. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Across Cochrane District, recorded fish include northern pike, yellow perch, white sucker, Iowa darter and logperch. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. Read Reveille Lake before you fish it and the day goes better.
Temperature averages peak at 17°C in July and bottom out at -18°C in January. A hard winter is normal, and the thaw brings a strong few weeks. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough early May. The season between ice runs from about early May to mid November. Early summer and early autumn carry the open-water season. Anyone fishing Reveille Lake regularly works to that calendar.
Nothing on record says whether the bank is open or closed. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. We find no slipway, car park or made path within a short radius, so treat access as rough. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. Pallet Lake at 1.6 km is the sensible second choice.
