Dull, settled light over the water, with an easy breeze from the WNW and steady pressure. The fish at Rae Lake are likely to sit near structure within a cast of the bank. A hard day on paper; the morning edges the rest. Go lighter and slower than usual. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

In Ontario, Rae Lake belongs to Sudbury. It lies 372 metres above sea level. About 1.88 sq km, so local knowledge or a boat saves a lot of walking. At about 9.8 km of edge, most people work one arm at a time. On our Sudbury list it sits near the top for size. The nearest place of any size is Chapleau, 90 km away. Greater Sudbury sits 163 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Sudbury records list smallmouth bass, northern pike, yellow perch and Iowa darter among the fish reported. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. On Rae Lake the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Expect July near 17°C and January near -16°C on the long-run figures. A short, intense season is the rule this far north. Break-up comes around late April, and the run that follows is short and strong. Averages suggest open water from about late April through to roughly mid November. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. Anyone fishing Rae Lake regularly works to that calendar.
Public data does not answer the access question here. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Nothing formal is recorded here: no ramp, no car park, no marked path. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Failing this one, try Mallard Lake, 3 km away. Check the position on Rae Lake before loading the car.
