Dull, settled light over the water, with an easy breeze from the W and no real change in pressure. On Rack Lake, work the margins and the shelf beyond them first. A tough forecast; the night offers the only real chance. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Ontario holds Rack Lake, in Sudbury. Land around it is rolling bush. Surface area is around 11 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. The bank runs about 1.5 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. On size it sits at the modest end of our Sudbury list. The closest town, Capreol, is 62 km away. The nearest city of size is Greater Sudbury, 87 km away. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Open biodiversity records for Sudbury list smallmouth bass, northern pike, yellow perch, Iowa darter and walleye. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. The shape of Rack Lake decides where the fish sit.
The warmest month averages 17°C, the coldest about -16°C. Fishing here follows the temperature more than the calendar. Look for the thaw near late April; the fishing lifts straight after. The season between ice runs from about late April to mid November. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Rack Lake.
Access is not recorded for this water. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. No made access is recorded, so a short walk in is the likely arrangement. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. The nearest alternative is Hollow Cedar Lake, 2.6 km out. For Rack Lake in particular, ask before you travel.
