Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with a useful SSW wind pushing food about with the glass holding level. Whatever swims in Quig Lake should be near any hard bottom among the soft. Not a day the forecast likes; the night keeps a flicker of interest. Lower the pace and stay patient. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

In Ontario, Quig Lake falls inside Lanark County. Land around it is pine and birch. With some 27 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. Around 5.3 km of bank, which is a long day on foot. By elevation it sits in the lower part of our Ontario listings. The closest town, Almonte, is 12 km distant. The big place round here is Nepean, 50 km distant. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Species logged across Lanark County include pumpkinseed, rock bass, smallmouth bass and bluegill. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. Quig Lake fishes better once you know its edges.
Typical July readings run about 20°C; by January the average is down near -11°C. The year splits cleanly: hard water, then open water. After mid April the shallows warm and the fish move up. Expect the water usable from around mid April until roughly early December. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. At Quig Lake the season follows that pattern closely.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. There is a campsite 1.4 km from the water. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Check whether a boat is allowed before you tow one. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. Taylor Lake, 2.8 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Treat access at Quig Lake as something to verify.
