A closed sky with even light today, with flat calm through the day and no real change in pressure. Fish at Pot Lake should hold close to the weed line and any gaps in it. A stay-home graph, with the morning as the one excuse to go. Quiet tactics only; the fish will not chase today. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

Pot Lake sits in Sudbury, out in Ontario. The setting is mixed forest. With some 16 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. The full circuit measures close to 1.7 km on foot. Nearest place of any size is Dowling, 78 km away. Beyond it, Rayside-Balfour at 80 km and Capreol at 85 km. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
There is no published depth for this one, so start shallow and work out. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Fish documented in Sudbury include smallmouth bass, northern pike and yellow perch. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. At Pot Lake light and wind decide more than tackle does.
On the long-term average, July reads 17°C and January reads -16°C. Spring and autumn carry the fishing; summer and winter test it. Count the season from break-up, usually late April. The open-water window runs from around late April to about mid November in an average year. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. The season on Pot Lake rarely departs from it.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. We find no slipway, car park or made path within a short radius, so treat access as rough. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. If the gate is shut, Marquette Lake at 3.2 km is the nearest alternative. Check the position on Pot Lake before loading the car.
