Dull, settled light over the water, with a light WNW breeze and pressure sitting still. On Pipe Lake, work the first drop-off and weed lines first. The strongest window is the middle of the day. Stay patient; middling days often turn late. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Pipe Lake is one of the Algoma waters in Ontario. It lies 347 metres above sea level. The water covers some 33 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. There is roughly 3.6 km of shoreline here, which is a short walk end to end. Supplies mean a trip to Thessalon, 28 km off. It is 192 km to Greater Sudbury, the nearest city. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. County-wide records name walleye, northern pike, Iowa darter, yellow perch and white sucker. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. The shape of Pipe Lake decides where the fish sit.
Long-term averages put July at about 18°C and January near -12°C. The freeze arrives properly here and holds. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from late April. The open-water window runs from around late April to about late November in an average year. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. Plan around that when you fish Pipe Lake.
Our records carry no access rule either way. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Nothing formal is recorded here: no ramp, no car park, no marked path. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Rules for this water may differ from the county norm. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. For a change of water, Urquhart Lake is 3.6 km distant. Ask locally about Pipe Lake if anything is unclear.
