No direct sun expected today, with a light WNW breeze with a settled glass. Activity on Piepah Lake should centre on reed fringes and open pockets. A stay-home graph, with the middle of the day as the one excuse to go. Downsize everything and pick the calmest water. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

The Thunder Bay District end of Ontario holds Piepah Lake. The surface lies 347 metres up. At roughly 6 hectares, the whole thing is within casting reach of a single walk. On size it sits at the modest end of our Thunder Bay District list. Schreiber sits 25 km from here and is the nearest stop. Terrace Bay is 37 km and Nipigon 53 km. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Species logged across Thunder Bay District include cisco, blackfin cisco and rainbow smelt. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. Piepah Lake gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
Seasonal averages run from -17°C in January up to 16°C in July. Winter owns most of the year at this latitude. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from early May. Open water usually runs from early May until about mid November. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. Plan around that when you fish Piepah Lake.
Our records carry no access rule either way. The map shows no ramp or car park nearby, so this is a walk-in water. One rod, a handful of hooks and floats, and a few small lures are enough for this water. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Musquash Lake, 1.6 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Treat access at Piepah Lake as something to verify.
