Passing showers with dry spells between, with dead-still conditions and no real change in pressure. On Peterson Lake, work the calm side of the wind first. If you must go, go in the morning. Treat it as a scouting trip with a rod in hand. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

Look for Peterson Lake in Cochrane District, Ontario. Northern bush runs right down to the water. The water covers some 11 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. There is roughly 2.5 km of shoreline here, which is a short walk end to end. Supplies mean a trip to Cochrane, 12 km off. It is 284 km to Greater Sudbury, the nearest city. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Fish documented in Cochrane District include northern pike, yellow perch and white sucker. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. Fish Peterson Lake to its features, not to its size.
Climate normals give 17°C for July and -18°C for January. Everything is compressed into the middle of the year. Winter locks it down, and early May brings it back. Ice clears near early May and comes back about mid November in a typical year. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. Peterson Lake fishes to that pattern most years.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. There is a mapped landing stage 1.4 km away. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. If the gate is shut, Bradette Lake at 0.5 km is the nearest alternative.
