Drifting cloud with clear gaps tonight, with light air out of the SW with the barometer flat. Start the search at Perron Lake along windblown banks where food collects. The evening is where the day comes good. Change depth before you change anything else. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Perron Lake is one of the Timiskaming District waters in Ontario. It lies 305 metres above sea level. Surface area is around 43 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. Roughly 3.9 km of bank means you can walk to a fresh area when one goes quiet. Supplies mean a trip to Kirkland Lake, 7.6 km off. Then Englehart, 40 km, and Temiskaming Shores, 78 km. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Across Timiskaming District, recorded fish include brook trout, northern pike, yellow perch, Iowa darter and walleye. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. Anyone new to Perron Lake should walk it once before setting up.
Averages move between -17°C in January and 17°C in July. The middle months are generous; the ends are demanding. Once it clears, about early May, the fishing comes on quickly. Climate averages put the opening at about early May and the closing near mid November. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. Perron Lake fishes to that pattern most years.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. A phone call first saves an afternoon. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. For a change of water, Elsie Lake is 2.2 km distant. Check the position at Perron Lake before loading the car.
