A closed sky with even light today, with a stiffish breeze from the WNW and pressure going nowhere. The productive water at Perley Lake will be around the seam between weed and open water. The graph is flat today, and flat is fishable. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

The Rainy River District end of Ontario holds Perley Lake. It stands 384 metres above sea level. With some 59 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. The full circuit measures close to 3.5 km on foot. The nearest place of any size is Atikokan, 41 km away. Thunder Bay sits 216 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Records held for Rainy River District cover northern pike, smallmouth bass and yellow perch. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. On Perley Lake that means starting tight and working out.
Typical July readings run about 18°C; by January the average is down near -17°C. Cold locks it up for a good stretch each year. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around late April. Open water usually runs from late April until about mid November. Early summer and early autumn carry the open-water season. The season on Perley Lake rarely departs from it.
We hold no note on access for this one. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Nothing in the way of made access shows up nearby: no ramp, no car park, no path. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Kirk Lake, 3.4 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Signs at Perley Lake carry more weight than any list.
