A grey, even sky over the water, with light air out of the SSW with the glass holding level. On Peka Lake, work the calm side of the wind first. The day fishes best from afternoon into evening. Fish confidently and change only when the bites stop. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Peka Lake sits within Thunder Bay District in Ontario. It stands 328 metres above sea level. Around 11 hectares of surface means several distinct areas to work. The edge runs 1.8 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. Our Thunder Bay District list holds plenty of bigger water. Greenstone sits 51 km from the bank. It is 240 km to Thunder Bay, the nearest city. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Open biodiversity records for Thunder Bay District list cisco, blackfin cisco, rainbow smelt and bloater. The list covers the county rather than this water alone, so treat it as a guide. Anyone new to Peka Lake should walk it once before setting up.
July is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 16°C, while January sits near -20°C. The window is narrow, and fish feed hard while it lasts. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about early May. Averages suggest open water from about early May through to roughly mid November. From the thaw to midsummer the fishing improves week by week. The season on Peka Lake rarely departs from it.
Our records carry no access rule either way. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Formal access is not mapped, so the last stretch is likely on foot. A light spinning outfit with a small box of lures and some bait covers most of what swims here. Check locally before you travel, because a wasted drive is a long one. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. For a change of water, Wawagogama Lake is 1.4 km distant. None of that is settled for Peka Lake in what we hold.
