Clear air and long views across the water tonight, with dead-still conditions and steady pressure. The water to cover at Peake Lake is bays that hold the day's warmth. Plan around the stretch from the day. Keep moving until you find them. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Peake Lake is one of the Algoma waters in Ontario. It sits at 267 metres above sea level. Small at around 9 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. It is a small entry by Algoma standards. Blind River is the closest place, 25 km off. It is 167 km to Greater Sudbury, the nearest city. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Species logged across Algoma include walleye, northern pike and Iowa darter. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. Work Peake Lake in sections rather than trying to cover it.
Expect July to average close to 18°C, with January the cold end at about -11°C. Expect a real winter and a strong spring after it. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around mid April. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about mid April until roughly late November. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. On Peake Lake the same rules apply, with local timing.
Nothing on record says whether the bank is open or closed. No car park, ramp or path is recorded within easy reach of the shore. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Failing this one, try Copp Lake, 4.3 km away. Nothing on Peake Lake should be assumed from this page alone.
