Open sky and sharp air tonight, with a mirror surface most of the day and pressure sitting still. Give inflow corners and shaded margins the first hour at Opalescent Lake. The evening carries the best of the day. Change depth before you change anything else. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Night
Ontario holds Opalescent Lake, in Renfrew County. It sits at 206 metres above sea level. Surface area is around 24 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. With about 3.6 km of edge, you can try several depths in one session. It lies lower than most water we list in Ontario. The nearest place of any size is Chalk River, 22 km away. After that come Deep River at 28 km and Petawawa at 30 km. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Records held for Renfrew County cover smallmouth bass, pumpkinseed and yellow perch. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. Opalescent Lake fishes better once you know its edges.
Expect July to average close to 19°C, with January the cold end at about -13°C. Winter puts a hard lid on this one. Ice is part of the season here, ending near late April. On average, late April opens the water and late November closes it again. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. Plan any trip to Opalescent Lake around it.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Mapping shows a campsite some 100 m from the water. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Failing this one, try Brigham Lake, 1 km away. What applies at Opalescent Lake may have changed since it was mapped.
