Clear overhead with good moonlight, with almost no wind to speak of with a settled glass. Start the search at Oak Lake along the shaded margin through bright spells. The night should out-fish the rest of the day. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Oak Lake stands in Nipissing District, Ontario. It sits in pine and birch country. The water covers some 15 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. With about 2.0 km of edge, you can try several depths in one session. By elevation it is in the upper part of our Ontario listings. Some 37 km away sits Huntsville, the nearest settlement. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Open biodiversity records for Nipissing District list smallmouth bass, cisco, yellow perch, pumpkinseed and rock bass. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. On Oak Lake the first feature you find is usually worth a session.
Expect July near 18°C and January near -12°C on the long-run figures. Four clear seasons, with a proper winter at one end. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly late April. Break-up near late April, freeze-up near late November: that is the shape of an average year. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. At Oak Lake the season follows that pattern closely.
No access rule appears in what we hold. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Mapping shows a campsite some 240 m from the water. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. Failing this one, try Telma Lake, 0.7 km away. Check the position at Oak Lake before loading the car.
