Light moving in and out all day, with a firm SW blow and the barometer holding steady. Start the search at North Lake along reed fringes and open pockets. Bank on the evening and treat the rest as bonus. Take the steady approach over the searching one. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Out in Parry Sound District, Ontario, sits North Lake. The setting is rolling bush on every side. Surface area is around 54 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. The bank runs about 4.7 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. Size puts it in the front rank of our Parry Sound District list. The nearest town is South River, 19 km away. Powassan lies 37 km off, Huntsville another 43 km. This one is safely inside the county line.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Records held for Parry Sound District cover smallmouth bass, pumpkinseed and yellow perch. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. On North Lake the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
The warmest month averages 18°C, the coldest about -12°C. Cold locks it up for a good stretch each year. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly late April. Climate averages put the opening at about late April and the closing near late November. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. North Lake runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
Our records carry no access rule either way. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. Long Lake sits 2.1 km off and takes the overflow. Treat North Lake as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
