Overcast skies today, with a kind WSW breeze on the water with the barometer flat. Expect most activity at Nog Lake around inflow corners and shaded margins. Little to get excited about, though the night holds a sliver of promise. Lower the pace and stay patient. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

The Kenora District end of Ontario holds Nog Lake. It stands 371 metres above sea level. It runs to roughly 35 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. Roughly 3.3 km of bank means you can walk to a fresh area when one goes quiet. Sioux Lookout is the closest town at 30 km. For a city, Thunder Bay is 253 km off. No border sits close enough to matter.
Our records hold no depth for this water. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Open biodiversity records for Kenora District list northern pike, longnose sucker, white sucker and johnny darter. County data is a starting point rather than a guarantee. On Nog Lake that means starting tight and working out.
Climate records put July near 18°C and January near -19°C. Four clear seasons, with a proper winter at one end. Once it clears, about late April, the fishing comes on quickly. On average, late April opens the water and mid November closes it again. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. On Nog Lake the same rules apply, with local timing.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. We find no slipway, car park or made path within a short radius, so treat access as rough. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. Should this one be busy, Clamshell Lake is 4.2 km off.
