Blue sky from bank to bank today, with a kind W breeze on the water and the barometer holding steady. Most of the action on Net Lake should come off any hard bottom among the soft. A hard day on paper; the night edges the rest. Scale down and fish slowly. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

Out in Nipissing District, Ontario, sits Net Lake. The bank is 294 metres above sea level. This is sizeable water at about 8.10 sq km, and a boat opens up most of it. Around 63 km of margin, so directions matter more than a general plan. On our Nipissing District list it sits near the top for size. The town to know is Ville-Marie, 36 km out. Then Haileybury, 40 km, and Temiskaming Shores, 43 km. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Nipissing District records list smallmouth bass, cisco and yellow perch among the fish reported. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. Anyone new to Net Lake should walk it once before setting up.
Long-term averages put July at about 18°C and January near -15°C. Four clear seasons, with a proper winter at one end. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near late April. On average, late April opens the water and late November closes it again. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. It holds true on Net Lake more years than not.
Access is not recorded for this water. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. There is a slipway on the shore, 870 m from the water we list. Fishing from a pier is possible 250 m away. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. A landowner's word beats anything printed elsewhere. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. Arsenic Lake at 2.6 km is the sensible second choice. Confirm access to Net Lake locally before you travel.
