Murray Lake Fishing in Sudbury, Ontario

• Overview

  Murray Lake is one of the Sudbury waters in Ontario. Height above sea level is 243 metres. This is sizeable water at about 3.57 sq km, and a boat opens up most of it. There is roughly 14 km of bank, more than one visit can cover properly. Size puts it in the front rank of our Sudbury list. The closest town, Markstay-Warren, is 24 km away. Capreol is 38 km away, with Valley East at 44 km. This one is safely inside the county line.

• Where to Fish on Murray Lake

  There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Fish documented in Sudbury include smallmouth bass, northern pike and yellow perch. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. On Murray Lake the obvious spot is not always the productive one.

• Seasonal Patterns

  July is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 18°C, while January sits near -14°C. Seasons are distinct, and each one fishes differently. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough late April. Expect the water usable from around late April until roughly late November. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. • Tackle & Baits

For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself.
