Soft grey light all day today, with an easy breeze from the S and steady pressure. Most of the action on Moon Lake should come off any hard bottom among the soft. The productive run goes morning through afternoon. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

You will find Moon Lake in Algoma, Ontario. What surrounds it is rolling bush. Surface area is around 61 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. Some 8.7 km of bank gives room to move when the wind turns. Wawa lies 14 km from the water. Chapleau is 95 km away, with Hornepayne at 148 km. If this one is busy: Cabin Lake at 1.4 km, Two Mile Lake 2 km off, Mishewawa Lake at 2.6 km, Mona Lake 3.1 km off and Prentice Lake at 3.5 km. No border sits close enough to matter.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Across Algoma, recorded fish include walleye, northern pike, Iowa darter, yellow perch and white sucker. What holds for the county may not hold for this water. Moon Lake repays a walk before the first cast.
Between January at about -14°C and July at about 16°C, the water has a wide range to work through. Cold locks it up for a good stretch each year. The lid usually goes in late April, which opens the strongest weeks of the year. The open-water window runs from around late April to about late November in an average year. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. Moon Lake runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
Our records carry no access rule either way. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. No made access is recorded, so a short walk in is the likely arrangement. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Gates get locked out of season on water like this. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Cabin Lake sits 1.4 km off and takes the overflow. Signs at Moon Lake carry more weight than any list.
