Flat light and a covered sky today, with an easy breeze from the W with the glass holding level. Fish at Minnow Lake should hold close to reed fringes and open pockets. The forecast is against you; the middle of the day is the least bad option. Short, focused sessions beat a long grind today.

Minnow Lake is an Algoma water, in Ontario. It sits in northern bush country. Small at around 2 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. It is one of the smaller waters we list in Algoma. Hornepayne sits 53 km from here and is the nearest stop. Hearst lies 77 km off, Kapuskasing another 127 km. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Open biodiversity records for Algoma list walleye, northern pike, Iowa darter, yellow perch and white sucker. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. On Minnow Lake the first feature you find is usually worth a session.
Typical July readings run about 16°C; by January the average is down near -18°C. Cold dominates the calendar on water this far north. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around early May. Ice usually gives way near early May, and forms again about mid November. Spring is short and heavy here; autumn is longer and steadier. Minnow Lake fishes to that pattern most years.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Rules for this water may differ from the county norm. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. Should this one be busy, Watt Lake is 3.5 km off. Rules at Minnow Lake are worth checking on the day.
