Uneven cloud over the water after dark, with hardly a ripple anywhere with the glass holding level. Activity on Minnow Lake should centre on any hard bottom among the soft. A slow day overall; the night is the best of a quiet lot. Scale down and fish slowly. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Minnow Lake is a Greater Sudbury water, Ontario side. The ground around here is lake country bush. With some 20 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. The full circuit measures close to 1.9 km on foot. The town to know is Greater Sudbury, 2.6 km out. After that come Azilda at 13 km and Lively at 16 km. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Depth is unmeasured here, so let the shoreline guide you. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Public occurrence data for Greater Sudbury names smallmouth bass, yellow perch, northern pike and pumpkinseed. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. Minnow Lake fishes better once you know its edges.
Averages here run 20°C at the top of summer and -13°C at the bottom of winter. Expect a real winter and a strong spring after it. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough late April. Expect the water usable from around late April until roughly late November. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. Anyone fishing Minnow Lake regularly works to that calendar.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. A car park sits roughly 330 m away. Fishing from a pier is possible 630 m away. Minnow Lake Conservation Area takes in this water; protected-area rules will apply. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Ramsey Lake sits 1.2 km off and takes the overflow. What applies at Minnow Lake may have changed since it was mapped.
