Uneven cloud over the water after dark, with mild air moving in from the W and steady pressure. Most of the action on McLennan Lake should come off the shallows early and the drop later. A tough forecast; the morning offers the only real chance. Treat it as a scouting trip with a rod in hand.

Night
The Sudbury end of Ontario holds McLennan Lake. The water sits 448 metres up. Surface area is around 76 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. With 8.2 km or so of shoreline, boat anglers cover ground the bank cannot. By elevation it is in the upper part of our Ontario listings. Chapleau at 13 km is the nearest place to stop. Further out sit Wawa (107 km) and Sault Ste. Marie (152 km). No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
Our records hold no depth for this water. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Reported across Sudbury: smallmouth bass, northern pike, yellow perch and Iowa darter. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. Fish McLennan Lake where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep.
Between January at about -15°C and July at about 17°C, the water has a wide range to work through. A short, intense season is the rule this far north. The lid usually goes in late April, which opens the strongest weeks of the year. Ice usually gives way near late April, and forms again about mid November. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. Plan around that when you fish McLennan Lake.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. If the gate is shut, Seven Mile Lake at 0.6 km is the nearest alternative. Check the position at McLennan Lake before loading the car.
